Pursuing Wisdom is Worth the Effort
Proverbs 2:6 (ESV): “For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.”
Wisdom is knowing what to do, when to do and how to do. It goes hand in hand with spiritual discernment. Spiritual discernment is the ability to distinguish good from bad, right from wrong, to make sense out of what is happening. Spiritual discernment is based on the Word of God (God’s viewpoint) and not from the world’s or man’s viewpoint.
So how do we gain wisdom? By pursuing it. You have to make it happen. The main source of wisdom is in the Word of God. We have to read the word, study it, meditate on it, asking Holy Spirit to speak to us.
Another source of wisdom is the advice or counsel of “godly” men and women. Proverbs 12:15b (ESV): “…but a wise man listens to advice.” God brings fellow believers into your life to offer biblical advice, encouragement, or reproof. Listen to what they have to say even if you disagree with it. Then pray about it. I encourage you to surround yourself with other believers in Christ who pursue what the Lord loves and values.
God gives you His wisdom freely. God promises us that if you seek Godly wisdom you will (not might, or hopefully) find it. Proverbs 8:17 (ESV): I (wisdom) love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently find me.
Yes, pursuing Godly wisdom takes time and effort but in the end it is more than worth it when you get clarity and guidance in a particular situation.
